Pastors,
Wow! Is it really back-to-school time already? Hope you’ve had a good summer, wherever it went.
Please allow me to share some important reminders of events coming up this Fall:
1—September 13—PCDC @ FVCN from 9am to noon. Don’t forget the continental breakfast and fellowship time from 8:30-9am, or the lunch and fellowship time for only $5 from 12-12:30pm. Remember your attendance is expected and required for this important time of vision casting. Some of you may want to share about the new ministries you have started since Assembly.
2—September 18—“Momentum” @ FVCN from 8:45am to 3:30pm. Final registration/check in begins at 8:15am. There will be several seminars relating to children, youth, and adult ministries as well as challenging and inspirational plenary sessions (2) with our General Superintendent, Dr. Stan Toler. A list of the seminars will be emailed to the pastors by the end of this month for your information. You do not need to sign up ahead of time for the seminars but we do need to know the number of people who are attending Momentum from your church.
We are extending the Early Registration Deadline and cost of $10/person until September 5, 2010. Registration is being handled through the District Office and individual checks and/or checks for your entire group can be made payable to the Philadelphia District COTN. Registration will be accepted at the door on September 18th for the cost of $15/person but it still would be very helpful to know how many are coming from your church, even if you turn that number in after September 5. That, at least, helps us to have enough lunches for everyone.
This is a first-class event and I need your help as pastors to really promote this to your congregations. I trust that you are planning to attend yourself, especially since Dr. Toler will be doing a seminar specifically for our pastors.
3—September 25—Word in Action Ministries (Joses and Chantal St. Phard) will be holding the annual Gospelrama in center city Philadelphia at City Hall from 9am until 5p. As always, they are in need of toiletry items, blankets, coats, and assistance with food and entertainment. If your church would be interested in helping in any of these areas, you can contact them at 215-485-2907.
An SOS has also been put out for another used van for Word in Action Ministries, if anyone knows of one being available.
4—October 5-7—Ministers’ and Mates’ Retreat in conjunction with the Mid-Atlantic District. It will be held at the Willow Valley (PA) Conference and Retreat Center. The speaker is Dr. David Dunbar, President and Professor of Theology at Biblical Seminary. You should have received information and registration forms via email about a week ago. (Click here to register on-line.) Please note that all registrations must be processed through the Mid-Atlantic District so any questions should be addressed to their office. The registration deadline is September 15. I know that during this difficult economy many of our churches are struggling financially; however, these times of retreat and the opportunity to develop community are very important. If a letter to your church board from me would be helpful to ask them to cover this expense for their parsonage family, I would be more than willing to do that. It would make an excellent Pastors’ Appreciation gift, which takes place during the month of October. Even though registration takes place through the Mid-Atlantic District, I would appreciate it if you would let me know of your commitment to attend. I’m hoping we will be able to plan a small portion of time for us to get together as pastors from the Philadelphia District.
5—As I have been traveling the District this summer, I have been getting positive feedback about the new budget formula. May I just offer this encouraging and friendly reminder: we are almost halfway through the Church Year so we need to be diligent in doing our part to fully cooperate with the new budget formula. Some churches have yet to get started so, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
6—Here is an easy one, but I really do need your cooperation. Bob Kerwin at FVCN is the new SDMI statistician. Less than half of our churches are reporting their Sunday School statisticson a monthly basis. This can be done by email and is a task that could certainly be assigned to someone else in the church. If you have any questions, you can reach Bob at bkerwin@fvcn.org. Bottom line, let’s make sure we get this taken care of at the end of each month.
I am really dependent on your assistance in communicating this information to your congregations. Therefore, let me thank you in advance for your cooperation. I’m looking forward to being with you at PCDC on September 13th.

Newell
